Metal Decontamination Project
Restoring childhood by removing the toxins that stole it.
🧬 A Silent Crisis, A Powerful Response
The very first project launched by Ventanas was rooted in urgency and compassion.
In the industrial regions of Punto Fijo and Maracaibo, Venezuela, children were growing up in the shadow of oil refineries — and unknowingly absorbing toxic metals that were wreaking havoc on their minds and bodies.
Working in close partnership with Dr. César Rengifo, a Venezuelan medical toxicologist, we launched a project to identify, treat, and restore the quality of life for children suffering from metal contamination.
🧪 The Problem We Faced
In 2010, scientific testing revealed the presence of at least five toxic metals in children living near industrial zones. The contamination levels varied depending on location, but the effects were widespread and severe.
Symptoms caused by metal toxicity included:
Neurological disorders
Autism spectrum symptoms
Severe behavioral issues
Attention deficit
Developmental delays
Without intervention, these children faced a lifetime of misdiagnosis, exclusion from school, and emotional isolation.
🧬 The Solution We Built
Ventanas coordinated an innovative, personalized treatment program that combined:
📦 Custom decontamination formulas developed by Dr. Rengifo for each child
🧫 Hair mineralogram testing performed by a partner laboratory in the U.S. to detect and track heavy metal levels
💊 18-month treatment plans focused on detoxification, nutritional support, and neurodevelopmental healing
Rather than provide generic aid, we tailored treatment to each child's toxic exposure profile — a rarity in humanitarian medical work.
📊 The Impact
Over 120 children were directly treated through this project.
Most of them, after completing their full detoxification and therapy cycles, were able to:
Return to school
Regain emotional balance
Reconnect with their families
Thrive as any child should
This wasn’t just a medical mission — it was a recovery of stolen childhoods.
🌍 Why This Still Matters
Although this project was our first, it still reflects everything Ventanas stands for today:
✅ Targeted, long-term solutions
✅ Partnerships with local experts
✅ Dignified, data-backed care
✅ Transparent, life-changing results
🧭 What’s Next?
While the Metal Decontamination Project is currently in maintenance mode, we continue to advocate for:
Greater awareness of industrial contamination in marginalized regions
Safer living conditions for children in vulnerable communities
Partnerships with medical professionals who share our mission
We also carry the lessons of this project into every new initiative we launch — from nutrition to education to clean water.
