In Villa del Sur, where refugee life often brings instability and hardship, sports are more than just games — they’re a source of identity, structure, and hope.

Many of the children we serve were spending long days in the streets, disconnected from school, community, or direction. But when you give a child a jersey and a reason to show up… everything begins to change.

Equipos Ventanas is our sports initiative dedicated to building safe, competitive, community-based soccer and baseball programs for Venezuelan refugee children.

We teach more than just how to pass a ball — we teach discipline, teamwork, leadership, and self-worth.

⚽ Our Teams & Sports

Currently, we run two structured programs:

🏆 Community Soccer Team

• Competing regularly with neighboring villages

• Full practice schedule, coaches, drills, and team structure

• Uniforms, cleats, and equipment provided as funding allows

⚾ Community Baseball Program (Emerging)

• Informally initiated by the children themselves!

• We’re now raising funds to formalize this team with coaches and gear

• A growing space for skill-building, confidence, and collaboration

Each sport is co-led by local coaches and volunteers, many of whom are parents, older siblings, or former athletes themselves.

And after every practice, players gather to eat together, support one another, and share in the camaraderie of a true team.

For many of our children, this is their first taste of organized sport — their first opportunity to represent something. To be part of something.

Sports give them an outlet for their energy, a team to grow with, and a chance to experience joy that isn’t interrupted by fear or hunger.
