Ventanas for Venezuela's Cultural Center and Library which was constructed for the Venezuelan children of Villa del Sur

LA CASITA PROJECT

A sacred space for growth, learning, and hope in the heart of Villa del Sur.

πŸ“š The Heart of the Community

At the edge of the refugee camp in Villa del Sur, where the days are long and opportunities are scarce, something extraordinary is happening inside a small white building with brightly colored windows.

It’s called La Casita β€” and for the children who walk through its doors each day, it’s so much more than a building.

It’s a library. A classroom. A stage. A safe space.
But more than anything, it’s a window of opportunity.

✨ Our Mission

La Casita exists to restore hope, structure, and inspiration to the lives of Venezuelan refugee children living in extreme poverty. These are kids who have lost years of schooling, who carry trauma far too early, and who need more than charity β€” they need possibility.

πŸŽ“ What Happens Inside La Casita?

We currently run five weekly programs that give kids the tools to dream again:

πŸ“– Literacy & Academic Support

Many of our children are years behind in reading and writing due to displacement. We provide guided literacy and afterschool tutoring to help them catch up and thrive.

πŸ’‘ School of Values

In a world that often feels unsafe, we teach kindness, responsibility, teamwork, patience, respect, and gratitude. These sessions create emotional structure and social awareness.

🎼 Fundamentals of Music

From rhythm to melody, kids are introduced to music theory and instruments, building the foundation for our community symphony and sparking confidence through creativity.

🎭 Theater & Creative Expression

Children are encouraged to act out their lives and dreams using performance, storytelling, and roleplay β€” creating healing through imagination and laughter.

πŸ“š Homework & Academic Coaching

After school, kids come to La Casita for support with homework, classwork, and projects. We work closely with local educators to ensure no child is left behind.

πŸ’› Why It Matters

These are not just programs. They are pathways back to childhood.
For children who fled violence, lost homes, or missed school for years β€” La Casita offers a space to imagine again. To catch up. To belong. To believe in their futures.

β€œAnd when a child believes in themselves, the future gets a little brighter for everyone.”
