CLOSING THE WATER GAP
Because every child deserves more than a glass of water — they deserve the chance to grow, learn, and live with dignity.
🚱 A Community Without Water
In Villa del Sur, clean water isn’t a daily guarantee — it’s a daily crisis.
This refugee community, tucked into the arid, sun-scorched landscape of La Guajira, has no running water. No sewer system. No reliable infrastructure. For years, families have relied on makeshift solutions — carrying buckets, waiting on deliveries, and rationing every drop.
The cost of this scarcity is more than discomfort. It’s illness, malnutrition, halted learning, and an ongoing erosion of health and dignity.
💛 How It Started
In July 2022, Ventanas stepped in.
We began by delivering clean drinking water directly to community tanks every single week. By March 2023, we had supplied over 800,000 liters of life-saving water — providing hydration, cooking, cleaning, and a restored sense of stability for hundreds of children and families.
🛠 Our Long-Term Solution: Sustainability, Not Dependency
With help from our local partners — Pastoral Social and Europana — we installed a new community water tank in March 2023, launching the next phase of the mission: empowering the community to manage their own supply.
Ventanas helped form a local water committee, made up of families from the camp, to oversee distribution, monitor needs, and learn how to maintain and expand access over time.
We’re no longer just delivering water — we’re building a culture of self-reliance and stewardship.
🚧 What’s Next: Meeting a Growing Need
As the refugee community continues to grow, so does the need.
Our next goals include:
✅ Installing 2–3 new tanks across additional zones of the community
✅ Providing water education workshops for long-term sustainability
✅ Training additional families in water monitoring and resource sharing
✅ Exploring solar-powered pumping systems to reduce external dependence
Water is the base layer. Without it, education, nourishment, and health cannot exist.
🌿 Why This Project Matters
Clean water means fewer illnesses.
Clean water means children can go to school instead of walking miles to find it.
Clean water means parents can cook, clean, and care with dignity.
And most importantly — clean water means hope takes root.
““Without water, everything stops. With water, everything begins.””
